This is Day 1 of the 7-Day challenge to help you be more visible on LinkedIn ๐
You can find here Day 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7.
Each day I will share one simple action step to improve your LinkedIn presence ๐ And I will make sure it will take less than 10 minutes to complete.
Let's go!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Today we will start refining our USP.
Jules Marcoux said that โwhen building your personal brand, the number one question to ask yourself is: what do I want to be known for?โ
That is a good starting question.
But we want to dig deeper for that ๐
So, here is the most powerful thing you can do in 10 minutes to find your USP:
โก๏ธ What are your unfair advantages?
Think about what makes you the OBVIOUS choice for your future employer/client/mentor.
For example, letโs say you are a product manager, but you are an architecture graduate.
That is a huge unfair advantage, because you did not go to the classical route, taking a product managing course.
You have an adjacent domain in your sleeve, that carved your spatial & strategic thinking in a way nothing else could have done it.
The authors of โThe Unfair Advantageโ identified six key areas where you can find your unfair advantages:
๐ Money
๐ Intelligence and insight
๐ Location and luck
๐ Education and expertise
๐ Status
๐ Mindset
But sometimes it is hard to spot these instantly, especially if you did not think about it before.
So, we will add another layer to it:
โก๏ธ What do past/current co-workers, clients, friends & family and people you meet for the first time say about you?
What are the keywords they use when describing you?
Just put your thoughts in a notebook, as in a free flow journaling exercise.
Do not judge them. They are you.
And when building a personal brand, we want the real you.
โ๏ธ The reason why we are doing this is because you should (respectfully) SCREAM your unfair advantages every time someone inquires about your business
(including the time when they simply scroll through LinkedIn or personal website)
They make you who you are.
๐ So that is our โhomeworkโ for the day: find & write as many keywords as possible associated with your unfair advantages & what people say about you.
In Day 2, we will put them altogether in a USP statement that will become your new bio & cover photo.
Aaaand if you have some more time today to refine your USP, you will definitely benefit from the resources from this pdf. Check them out / save them for later ๐ก
